Doja Cat Faces Backlash After Fan Gift Incident Sparks Viral Drama with 60M+ Views

Doja Cat has once again found herself at the center of controversy after calling a fan’s gift “moldy” in a now-deleted tweet. The drama, which has since gone viral with over 70 million views, has stirred intense debate about the boundary between celebrities and their fans.

The incident began earlier this June when TikToker Pablo Tamayo, with over 400,000 followers, shared a video of his spontaneous meeting with Doja outside an event. In the clip, Pablo excitedly greeted her and even offered his tank top as a gift. The two appeared friendly, exchanging hugs, kisses, and laughs.
However, a week later, Doja tweeted: “I’ll smile at you but that doesn’t mean you can touch me. You don’t even know my name and you’re already hugging me. That’s insane. Also, I threw that moldy shirt away.”
The tweets were quickly deleted, but screenshots circulated online, leading to public outrage. Many fans felt betrayed, especially after seeing Doja’s seemingly warm behavior in the original video.

In response, Pablo clapped back with a post showing the shirt, captioning: “I threw away the moldy shirt too,” sparking even more debate across social media.

Fans are divided some sympathize with Doja, noting celebrities should be allowed to set boundaries, while others accuse her of hypocrisy and disrespect. Critics argue that if Doja had felt uncomfortable, she should have expressed it during the encounter rather than perform for the camera.
This isn’t Doja’s first clash with fans. In July 2023, during her Scarlet album promo, she refused to say “I love you” to fans, stating, “I don’t even know you.” Her blunt response at the time led to tens of thousands unfollowing her on social media.

Despite backlash, Doja has stood by her unfiltered persona. She later said, “I feel relieved losing followers. Now I know who’s really here for me.” Many speculate her recent actions reflect her Scarlet alter ego an artistic reawakening symbolizing freedom, transformation, and chaos, inspired by Marvel’s Scarlet Witch.
As Doja continues to redefine herself creatively, the line between authenticity and alienation grows thinner and fans are watching every step.
